Collection: Jasmyn Fraser: Artwork

Meet: Jasmyn
Growing up in Cornwall, Jasmyn has always been inspired by her surroundings. From drawing animals and flowers as a small child, to being taken on long walks and trips to museums and national trust houses - the sense of history and timeless design had a huge influence on her which is evident in her style.
Following a degree in Anthropology at Durham University, she studied Fine Art in Brighton, but owes most of my skills to my college art teacher and a lot of practice.
Every week in university she would go to life drawing, and ever since has kept up the ritual of painting and drawing to hone these skills. Even when she was working full time, she would always sit down once a week to paint.

Timeless designs
Jasmyn was inspired to paint flowers on small boards after discovering florilegia, which are essentially picture books of flowers that were made to record species in people's gardens at a time when photography was not yet invented.
"I love the idea that each piece really does pay homage to a particular species, and you gain such a special relationship by sitting for hours with each piece."
From the moment she picked up oil paints, she was hooked on them, both because they're so pigmented, but also because you can layer them. Jasmyn's grandad was also a painter and so the smell of oil paints takes her back there, and she still has some of his paints which she uses to this day.
Jasmyn creates her art from my home studio in Sussex. She's created four exclusive "Made for Makerville" artworks which you can shop below. Each is one-of-a-kind.
